Tender Detail : |
Background:
The project “Green Innovation Centres for the Agriculture and Food Sector” (hereafter called the project, Green Innovation Centre, or GIC project) is part of the special initiative “Transformation of Agricultural and Food Systems” (SI AGER) formerly called “ONE WORLD – No Hunger” (SEWOH). The project is commissioned by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW). The project addresses poverty and hunger by establishing Green Innovation Centres for the agriculture and food sector in 15 countries, amongst them India. For the project in India, local innovation systems, competence development and the establishment of farmer organisations are crucial means to achieve the main goals. In addition, the project is committed to the cross-cutting issues of agroecology, climate change adaptation, renewable energy, gender equality, and youth employment. Against the background of the transformation of agri-food systems, it is working towards promoting sustainable food systems.
The project works in line with priorities of the Government of India, such as ‘Doubling Farmers’ Income and promoting Farmer Producer Organisations.
The focus of GIC activities in Himachal Pradesh is on supporting the farmers, state government, and other stakeholders in strengthening the apple value chain by introducing climate-smart innovations that can be implemented together as innovation bundles to promote the diversification of farmer’s income and support the resilience of farmers when faced with extreme climatic events. These include the development of good agricultural practices, food processing activities, and capacity building.
Objectives: • Build capacities of local beekeepers and farmers in the development of honey and honey-based byproducts and their marketing, focusing on socially and environmentally responsible products. • Promote awareness on benefits of indigenous bee species for beekeeping and biodiversity. • Plan activities in coherence with other interventions on beekeeping by GIC. • Provide strategic and technical support to the project and the selected beekeepers, especially during the out-phasing stage.
